A little piece of mind

I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do. ~Edward Everett Hale

Here you go my children, learn the actual facts before you go around blindly listening to whatever someone says, and acting on it.

i feel dumb now.

this is real shit, man. everyone needs to watch this.

yeaH

This. A thousand times, this.

YES. Educate yourself a little bit before you go buy all that cool KONY 2012 merch.

i’m so glad I found this. I’ve really been struggling with what to believe in this whole Kony Invisible children shit. because if what invisible children has been saying were true, then this would be a very noteworthy cause in which i would want to support and bring awareness about, but anytime anything has scandal involved i begin to question it, as many people do. I’m still not sure what I believe simply because there is no way I can experience what is truly going on in Uganda and every side of the story is extremely different. So for right now, I’m just going to chill. Besides just because a country is different from America doesn’t mean it needs saving or fixing. Every country works the way it does because that is what fulfills the needs of that society, as anthropology will teach us. So maybe there are wars and genocide going on in Africa, but until I know exactly what is going on, I’m just going to keep doing research and keep educating myself from a wide variety of sources, then I will decide what I support, what I agree with, and who I’m going to send my money to.

The whole point of KONY2012 is to arrest Kony because he is worlds MOST wanted man. He is not dead he is in the Congo and just because he is now hiding in the Congo does not mean he is not capable of doing more damage.. Kony is almost as bad as Hilter and people like this should not have the freedom to live as they please, justice needs to be done.

Why do people insist on believing this “ugandan” girl who looks 14 and has a more than half of her facts wrong?

  • NO we dont have U.S. military looking for him in Uganda,
  •  37% of funds go to Uganda NONE of which goes to the Ugandan military. This link shows how the money is being used http://www.invisiblechildren.com/critiques.html
  • Nonprofit organizations are ONLY required to give 5% of their funds to their cause.  Invisible Children is giving well over that amount. Why doesnt anyone question the way other non profits spend their funds? the C.E.O of American Cancer Society makes over a million a year and no one every complains about him. C.E.O of Amnesty International and Save Darfur make over $100,000 thats less than what Jason Russell makes.

Yes the Kony 2012 video was a little exaggerated but unfortunately thats the only way to get peoples attention. I know there are a lot of horrible things going on in many other places around the world but if we get together and raise worldwide awareness about them the way Jason Russell has sought out to do, then this world would be a better place. I support this campaign because NO ONE has ever tried to make change of this magnitude and people like Kony should be in jail for life.

Update from UN News Centre: Senior peacekeeping and political affairs officials explain how the UN maintains efforts against Lord’s Resistance Army
The Office of the UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict answers questions about UN work to address LRA operations. We hope this conversation will encourage people to learn all of the facts about the hundreds of thousands of children affected by conflict around the world.

How does the LRA recruit children and what is their role?
Where is the LRA operating?
What are the aspirations of the LRA?
What are other violations are committed against children by the LRA?
What has the United Nations done to address the violations committed against children by the LRA?
Why is a military action against the LRA risky?
What can I do for the children affected by the LRA?

Report of the UN Secretary-General on the Lord’s Resistance Army-affected areas (November 2011, S/2011/693)
UNICEF has been working for decades to protect children from violence/abuse. But there’s still much to be done.

International Criminal Court on the Situation in Uganda
Find out if your country has signed the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the Involvement of Children in armed conflict.
Statement from Special Representative Ms. Radhika Coomaraswamy:

I am pleased to see such a lively discussion on an issue that is often under-reported. If people want to help, they can support programs for children—-who have escaped the LRA—-to rebuild their lives and their communities throughout Central Africa. Any military action against LRA should pay heed to the fact that Kony’s army is largely comprised of children.
